How to pick the correct HRV filter
HRV have two different sized filters,
Pre 2014 which is the origanal steel fan box sysetm (generation 1)
Post 2014 which is the newer Plastic fan box system (generation 2)
- (Generation 1) is 5mm bigger than the newer (generation 2) due to the Plastic material being thicked than the sheet metal
- (Generation 1) is held in place by tape (Generation 2) has clips to hold filter in place so no tap needed
- (Generation 1 ) uses an F7 filter, It's not abvisable to use an F8 filter as it has more back pressure and can cause the older fans the fail. Any filter higher than F7 should only be used with a fan that has been designed to work with that grade of filter.
- (Generation 2 ) uses the F8 filter which has a slightly higher % of filtration, The (Generation 2) fan is designed to work with this type of filter.
Don't get to wound up with the grades of filtration as the difference in filtering is mesured in PPM (Parts PER Million) so it's kind of like the oppersit of mine is bigger than yours but it's mine is smaller than yours for people with big brains and bigger calulators.
There are two types of filter media that is used and available for HRV systems.
Deep Pleat Filter: Lofted synthetic polypropylene with muilty layered extended deep pleated surface which allows for more media surface area, resulting in excellent dust loading capacities and longer life span of upto 24 mths this is what supercell have choisen for there customer.
Mini Pleat Filter:The Minipleat filter media is 100% polypropylene made with optimum particle capture characteristics, high media area but does not have the extra layers to seperate the different sized particals meaning it's life span typically 12mths.
Both give excellent filtration just one will last twice as long due to design.
The Big difference is with supercell you will pay $55 for your filter for upto 24 mth.
With the Mini pleat HRV option you will be paying $65+ per filter and it will need two be changed twice over 24mths costing $130 +.
The choise is clear
